Cloncurry State School P-12 is pleased to offer an Instrumental Music Program in 2025.
Learning a musical instrument is not only fun, interesting and challenging but also, it’s a fantastic extra-curricular activity which can:
  • provide an artistic outlet for communication
  • support social-emotional development as students collaborate in a disciplined manner to make music, and
  • develop a child’s literacy and numeracy as they learn both music theory and practice.
In 2025, our Instrumental Music program offers instruction in Strings (violin) or Percussion (Glockenspiel, Snare Drum and a variety of other instruments).  Enrolment into the program is by selection which involves musical aptitude assessment and a review of a student’s behaviour, attendance and academic record.  All offers of enrolment are made at the discretion of our school leaders.
It is required that students participate in Instrumental Music lessons twice a week; one in a small group and one in a larger ensemble. Once enrolled, students are placed in small groups of 3-10 students and are withdrawn from their regular classes for a 35 minute lesson once per week.  Participation in an additional 1 hour after-school ensemble rehearsal is also a mandatory requirement.
As a Qld State School, we will deliver the Qld Instrumental Music Curriculum beginning at Level 1.  Achievement in Instrumental Music will be assessed against the Qld Instrumental Music Achievement Standards and reported to parents in end of semester report cards on a scale of A - E.  Three dimensions of learning will be assessed; literacy, performance and technique.
While tuition is free, there is a $60 Student Resource Fee for the program.  Parents / carers are also required to provide the necessary instruments and equipment.
We are continuing to take expressions of interest throughout Term 2. Please contact the Instrumental Music Teacher, Monica Kidd for more information.
